Impact of the SDLC on software testing

Impact of SDLC on Testing

There is usually extensive documentation in sequential models, and testers will often be involved in static testing of requirements well before dynamically testing the system functionality.  The time between static and dynamic testing may span many weeks. Here, it also likely that full use will be made of formal test design techniques.

In iterative models, collaboration plays a key role and documentation tends to be lighter than in the V model. Here, static and dynamic testing occurs during an iteration, typically lasting a few weeks. In this model, feedback on functionality is also quicker than in the V model, which may result in many changes. These changes are often managed by carrying out extensive regression testing. Automation plays a key part here.
