Move more, burn less. This of course is not the exercise mantra of the eighties, but as energy prices dominate headlines, it seems to me that there may be some use to it after all.
The virtuous cycle could be – exercise more – generate your own heat – move to your own beat. Instead of rising prices we could focus on raising our own game. Mental agility is as worthwhile as physical ability. One of the tenets of Agile working is that of simplicity – maximising the amount of work not done.
In today’s world, this could mean that, as we save time and money, we reduce our social media engagements, we switch the computer off at the correct time of day, then we run – literally. Exercise really can help us to burn less fuel if we pay attention to switching things off that we really do not need to be on standby whilst we're out. As we feel better physically, our mental wellbeing goes up, as does our inner warmth - so we can turn the thermostat down, and bask in our own sunshine.
